CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY — Stringent health protocols were imposed on Saturday evening by the provincial government of Camiguin after one patient tested positive for the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19), the first to be reported in the island province.
Governor Jurdin Jesus Romualdo announced the report on the patient, and this was confirmed by Dr. Adriano Subaan, director of the Department of Health (DoH) in Region 10, on Sunday.
The Provincial Health Office was tasked to do contact tracing, and strict implementation of community quarantine was imposed wherein residents were ordered to stay in their homes.
Based on medical records, the patient is a 32-year-old female based in the town of Mahinog. She contracted the virus when she attended a conference in Manila, 21 days ago. The invited resource speaker in the said conference had tested positive for Covid-19.
The patient, who is asthmatic, had her samples taken by DOH thrice while on quarantine. The first two tested negative, but she tested positive on the third time after ending the prescribed 14-day quarantine period on March 28.
Romualdo said the patient, who is among the island province's 70 persons under monitoring (PUM), is now isolated at the Camiguin General Hospital.
Camiguin is under a preemptive community quarantine from March 25 to April 14. (PNA)
