ZAMBOANGA CITY -- The Police Regional Office-9 (PRO-9) has launched an adopt-a-family (Kapwa ko, Sagot ko) program to help alleviate the plight of poor families affected by the enhanced community quarantine to contain the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19).

Brig. Gen. Froilan Quidilla, PRO-9 director, said Thursday the program aims to support the indigent families across the region that can no longer sustain their daily needs because of the severe restrictions on the movement of people.

Officials said most of the affected by the enhanced community quarantine are the daily wage earners, drivers of public conveyance and other low-income families and individuals as works and public transportation have been suspended.

Quidilla said all PRO-9 personnel are encouraged to adopt indigent families in their area of responsibility and provide relief goods, such as food packs or any voluntary donations that would sustain their daily needs.

To ensure full compliance, Quidilla has issued a memorandum directing all unit commanders from the headquarters down to the municipal and city police stations to implement the program.

Meanwhile, he advised all PRO-9 officers and personnel serving as front-liners to take precautionary measures to protect them against Covid-19.

Policemen had been deployed in checkpoints and tasked to assist in relief distribution, especially in remote areas, since the imposition of the enhanced community quarantine last month amid the Covid-19 crisis. (PNA)
