DIGOS CITY – Some 29,947 families here are potential beneficiaries for financial assistance under the Social Amelioration Program (SAP) of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD).

Mayor Josef Cagas, in a live broadcast on this city's official Facebook Page on Friday, said the number could be bigger since the city is composed of around 50,000 families spread all over the 26 barangay.

“Although I am hesitant to get involved, I still give the go signal for our City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO) to help in the identification as to the possible beneficiaries of the social amelioration program from the DSWD,” Cagas said.

Cagas said it will be the DSWD central office that will determine who among the families identified by CSWDO will qualify for the PHP6,000 cash assistance.

He said the financial aid should be prioritized for those who lost their jobs, senior citizens, and other families directly affected by the 2019 coronavirus disease (Covid-19) crisis.

“It’s not that I don’t want to help, but I just don’t want to dip my fingers into because I might be blamed by those who cannot qualify or have qualified but did not receive the cash assistance,” Cagas explained.

It was not immediately known whether recipients of the DSWD's conditional cash grants or 4Ps are among the 29,947 targeted beneficiaries. (PNA)
