ILOILO CITY – Eleven towns in the fifth district of Iloilo province will start a total quarantine on April 12, and the succeeding Sundays, to ramp up its defense against the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19).

The “Quinto Sunday Total Quarantine” was laid down by the eleven local chief executives in a joint memorandum circular 001 signed last April 8.

It will be enforced until April 30, the time the enhanced community quarantine ECQ in the province will end. It will take effect every Sunday of the week, starting at 9 p.m. of the preceding Saturday until 4 a.m. of the following Monday.

The towns in the fifth district in the north of Iloilo are Ajuy, Balasan, Concepcion, Barotac Viejo, Sara, Batad, Carles, Estancia, Lemery, San Dionisio, and San Rafael.

These towns created the Northern Iloilo Alliance for Development (NIAD) to draft respective plans with joint effort and agreement to solve problems, as said in the circular.

The quarantine bans persons to go out of the villages except during emergencies. Loitering and visitation within the villages are also prohibited.

All establishments, except for drugstores, hospitals, and medical clinics, are also encouraged not to operate during Sundays. Establishments, commercial and private entities are also discouraged from accommodating business transactions.

The circular bans any scandalous sounds and noise from sound systems and videokes.

“Vehicles and persons from other municipalities outside the Congressional District, Iloilo City, and Passi City, with valid enhanced community quarantine pass and travel documents passing through the municipalities of northern Iloilo shall not be hampered,” the circular said.

As of Saturday, the Covid-19-positive cases in the region remain at 39, the Department of Health-Development in Western Visayas (DOH-CHD 6) said.

Iloilo province listed 15 cases and the northern Iloilo remains free of the virus. (PNA)
