Navy mobilizes reservists in Zambo for Covid-19 response

ZAMBOANGA CITY – The Naval Forces Western Mindanao (NFWM) has mobilized its reservists to assist local government units in security requirements, packing and distribution of relief goods amid the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) crisis.

Rear Adm. Erick Kagaoan, NFWM commander, said Saturday they have mobilized the 613th and 611th Naval Squadrons Reserve (NSR) and the 91st Marine Battalion Reserve (MBN).

The 613th and 611th NSR, which is under the 61st Naval Group Reserve, are led by Ens. Geoseph Rey Magsayo and Ens. Joven Palitoc, respectively, while the MBN is led by Maj. Guivannie Dacuba.

Kagaoan said the 613th NSR has established a command post at the gymnasium of Katipunan town in Zamboanga del Norte whose personnel are assisting in repacking and distribution of relief goods for the remote barangays of Katipunan town.

The 611th NSR and 91st MBN, meanwhile, are currently providing assistance to the humanitarian activities at the center for displaced persons of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) in Barangay Talon-Talon here, he said.

He said the Naval Reserve of the NFWM will continuously be mobilized to support the “Bayanihan to Heal as One Act” initiative of the national government in this time of the health crisis. (PNA)
