ZAMBOANGA CITY – The city government is set to issue passes to control the number of people going out of their homes amid the enhanced community quarantine due to the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19).

This came following observation that the number of people and vehicles, specifically private-owned, swelled in numbers after the Holy Week that caused traffic jams in major thoroughfares leading to the city proper.

Mayor Maria Isabelle Climaco-Salazar said Wednesday the quarantine pass will be color-coded and will be issued through the barangay councils.

“The City Peace and Order Council agreed that the local government will issue these passes color-coded base on the recommendation of the security cluster,” Salazar said.

“We cannot allow such a thing to happen. We want people to stay home,” the mayor added.

She warned that violators of the enhanced community quarantine will be dealt with according to existing laws. She also ordered the police and military to strictly implement the quarantine regulations.

The enhanced community quarantine has been in effect since March 20 to prevent the spread of the Covid-19. (PNA)
