MANILA – The Philippine Army (PA) is always ready to support local government units (LGUs) and the police in enforcing enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) protocols to contain the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) outbreak, its spokesperson said Tuesday night.

"The PA, as directed by higher headquarters, continues to extend its support to local government units and the Philippine National Police (PNP) during the extended ECQ in Luzon to combat the spread of the Covid-19 virus in the country," Col. Ramon Zagala said in a statement.

An example of this is the deployment of PA units in select areas of Taguig, Makati, and Pateros with high Covid-19 cases.

The move seeks to augment the PNP’s role in strictly implementing the social distancing and ECQ, Zagala said.

“The PA mission is to support law enforcement by reminding citizens to observe social distancing and advising them to stay home to prevent the spread of the virus," he added.

Aside from this, Zagala said the PA would conduct information dissemination through loudspeaker operations and community visitations together with the PNP.

"The Army’s support to law enforcement operations will last for 10 days until the end of the enhanced community quarantine on April 30, 2020," he added. (PNA)
