ZAMBOANGA CITY – The local government here said on Wednesday it has continued distributing the Social Amelioration Program (SAP) benefit to families affected by the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) crisis.

In an interview, City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWD) chief Ma Socorro Rojas said that as of Tuesday, some 6,587 poor households in 13 of the 98 barangays have received the SAP benefit.

Rojas said CSWD has already disbursed over PHP32.8 million to the recipients, who received PHP5,000 each.

Ivan Eric Salvador, Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) regional information officer, said there are 116,518 identified SAP beneficiaries in the city.

The DSWD turned over earlier this month to Mayor Maria Isabelle Climaco-Salazar PHP582.59 million as part of the first tranche of the SAP.

Uldarico Fabian of CSWDO said that some 374 farmers and fishermen from three barangays in the east coast are among the SAP beneficiaries. (With reports from Salvador Santiago/PNA)
