MANILA – While everyone in the sports community is feeling the impact of the coronavirus disease (Covid-19), the Community Basketball Association (CBA) Pilipinas is doing its best to help.

CBA Pilipinas is now working closely with the Inner Wheel Club of Rosario Diamond and the Rotary Club of Heroes Hills District 3780 to assist medical workers and other front-liners in the fight against Covid-19.

Carlo Maceda, founding president of CBA Pilipinas, said CBA and Inner Wheel Club of Rosario Diamond and the Rotary Club of Heroes Hills District 3780 have donated PHP10,000 worth of liquid disinfectant “Master Disinfector" to the Philippine National Police in Camp Vicente Lim in Calamba, Laguna.

Face shields and masks sponsored by IWC Chinatown were also turned over to PNP front-liners.

Answering President Rodrigo Duterte's "We Heal as One" program, CBA also provided food packs to doctors, health workers and other front-liners at the Philippine Heart Center and Lung Center of the Philippines in the past weeks.

"We at CBA Pilipinas, Inner Wheel Club of Rosario Diamond and Rotary Club of Heroes Hills District 3780 feel blessed to be able to lend a helping hand to our front-liners now working hard to prevent the spread of the virus," said Maceda, a well-known actor-director who founded the CBA in 2018.

"We are very thankful to all our friends in the CBA for their generous support to our program to support our front-liners. Tuluy-tuloy lang ang tulong (assistance will continue)," he added.

Maceda lauded the hard work of his wife Derlyn, who is CBA vice president for corporate social responsibility, charter president of Inner Wheel Club Rosario Diamond and president-elect of Rotary Club Heroes Hills.

Last month, CBA declared defending champion San Juan Knights Navy and Palayan City Capitals as co-champions in the 2020 CBA-Pilipinas basketball tournament.

Maceda said the decision was reached upon consultation with officials of both San Juan and Palayan City due to the Luzon-wide enhanced community quarantine.

Team managers Christopher Conwi of San Juan Knights Navy and Ryan Ripalda of Palayan City Capitals signed on behalf of their respective teams.

Palayan, which is handled by veteran coach Alvin Grey, drew first blood with a 79-74 win in the opener of the best-of-three title showdown last Feb. 29.

But San Juan, coached by Randy Alcantara, evened the series with a 74-66 victory in Game 2 held in Gapan City last March 8.

The Covid-19 outbreak forced the cancellation of the scheduled Game 3. (PR)
