MANILA – The number of overseas Filipinos diagnosed with coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) has reached 1,185 as 63 new cases were recorded on Friday, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) reported.

"Of the 43 countries and regions with confirmed Covid-19 cases among overseas Filipinos, the DFA reports today 63 new cases, giving a total of almost 1,200 confirmed cases (410 DOH IHR [Department of Health International Health Regulations] verified) across the Americas, Asia and the Pacific, Europe, and the Middle East/Africa," DFA Assistant Secretary Eduardo Meñez said.

Compared to the previous figures, Meñez said the rates of new confirmed cases at 5.61 percent and new deaths at 9.62 percent are higher than the rate of confirmed recoveries at 4.25 percent.

As of Friday, the recoveries have increased to 319 and the death toll to 177, two of whom were recorded in Asia and the Pacific, 59 in Europe, 13 in the Middle East/Africa, and 103 in the Americas.

The department assured it would continue providing assistance to overseas Filipinos as needed.

"With today’s pronouncement extending the ECQ (enhanced community quarantine) in NCR (National Capital Region) and several 'high-risk' areas in the country, the DFA, through its Foreign Service Posts, continues to partner with local health authorities and agencies as they continue to implement measures to 'flatten the curve' of the Covid-19 pandemic, in cooperation with our nationals abroad," Meñez said.
