MAGALLANES, Sorsogon – The National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) has scheduled an 11-hour power outage next week, affecting the entire province.

Based on the notice of brownout sent to SORECO I and II by Pedro Borja, NGCP district manager for South Luzon, the shutdown will occur on May 5, Tuesday, from 6 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Borja said the main reason for the power outage is the replacement of wood poles, correction of critical line defects and maintenance of the sub-station.

In an interview Thursday, Nilda Somera, NGCP public information officer for South Luzon, said the wood pole replacement had been earlier scheduled but was temporarily shelved due to the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) pandemic.

Somera said the NGCP has decided to resume with the replacement activities as the situation in the province had normalized with its transition to general community quarantine (GCQ).

Somera announced last year that power shutdowns due to wood pole replacement activities for the province would last until the latter part of 2020.

Asked if the schedule would be until next year due to the Covid-19, Somera said: “There is no definite announcement yet from the higher management”. (PNA)
