3 more rebels found dead after Sorsogon clash

LEGAZPI CITY – At least three more New People’s Army (NPA) members’ bodies were found after an encounter between rebels and government security forces in Bulan, Sorsogon Friday morning.

An earlier report said two rebels were killed in the more than two-hour running gun battle in a remote village of said town.

Army Capt. John Paul Belleza, 9th Infantry Division (9ID) public affairs chief, in an updated report said the bodies of three other rebels were found by elements of the Army and police Special Action Force in a mopping-up operation.

"No casualties were reported on the government side," he added.

Earlier. Maj. Maria Luis Calubaquib, Bicol police spokesperson, said the firefight also led to the recovery of firearms and ammunition including M16A1, M16, and M14 rifles, an M79 grenade launcher, an Ultimax machine gun, a caliber .45 and .38 pistols from rebels. (PNA)
