Caluya town ends retrieval ops for missing policeman

SAN JOSE DE BUENAVISTA, Antique – The search and retrieval operation for the missing police officer on board a speedboat that capsized in Caluya, Antique has been terminated.

“The search for the missing body of P/Cpl. Mark Anthony Alejandro for the past five days since the SAR operation was conducted yielded a negative result,” said Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) Antique Station Commander Perlita Cinco in an interview on Wednesday.

She said the PCG vessel MRRV 4411 that was deployed to assist in the operation already returned in the afternoon of May 13 to the PCG Station in Iloilo City.

“PCG Antique and Aklan personnel together with the Far East Scuba Institute technical drivers were also dropped off by the PCG vessel in Culasi PCG Station after the SAR (search and retrieval) operation was terminated, May 13 afternoon,” she said.

Nine technical divers were sent by the Far East Scuba Institute to assist in the retrieval operation.

Meanwhile, Caluya Mayor Regil Kent Lim, in a statement, said their local government unit (LGU) appreciates the effort of the PCG, Philippine Navy, Philippine National Police, and the local rescuers in looking for the missing policeman.

He said the LGU Caluya though keeps on praying for the retrieval of his body and will extend assistance to the family of Alejandro.

The missing policeman was part of the security group of Mayor Lim for a relief operation for the residents of the island barangay of Sibolo in Caluya on May 8.
