DAVAO CITY – A total of 2,401 individuals in Davao del Sur violated the guidelines of the enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) and general community quarantine (GCQ) from March 17 up to May 14, the police said.

In a statement Thursday, the Davao del Sur Provincial Police Office (DSPPO) said that out of 472 quarantine-related enforcement operations in the province, 2,159 persons were accosted for curfew violations, who were warned and sent home.

DSPPO said 228 persons were also fined by their respective local government units for quarantine-related offenses, including a case of price manipulation in Digos City.

Also in Digos City, DSPPO said 13 curfew violators were charged before the Prosecutors Office.

For the same period covered, a total of 26 cases were filed against 56 individuals for disobeying the authorities.

DSPPO said the high number of violators can be attributed to the heightened implementation of Executive Order No. 27, which placed the entire Davao del Sur under GCQ.

The provincial police also said that its “One Time Big Time- Operations, “Oplan Patagam” and other related enforcement operations on the 2019 coronavirus disease (Covid-19) crisis resulted in a high number of apprehensions for illegal gambling, and illegal drugs.

It also added that the Digos City Police Station’s weeklong enforcement of “Oplan Patagam” formed part of the bulk in the number of apprehensions.

“All of our efforts and endeavor are aimed to prevent local transmission, containment, and control of the spread of Covid-19”, said Col. Alberto Lupaz, DSPPO director. (PNA)
