COTABATO CITY – A septuagenarian died in a predawn fire that hit a restaurant in Midsayap town, North Cotabato, on Tuesday.

The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) in Midsayap town, headed by Fire Senior Officer Marleap Nabor, identified the victim as Elvira Osorio, 78, a differently-abled person and resident of Barangay Poblacion 2.

Responding firefighters rescued Helen Tenerife, the restaurant owner; Emily Teo, 24; Richard Tenerife, 45; Jayceville Tenerife, 30; George Tenerife, 9; Jessica Tenerife, 5; and seven-month-old Helena Tenerife.

Nabor said they were still investigating what caused the fire at the Tenerife Eatery located across the Sto. Niño parish church compound at past 1 a.m. Tuesday.

“Some of the victims have sustained minor injuries and are now getting medication at the hospital,” he said.

Aside from the restaurant building, the fire also destroyed two pick-up trucks and a multi-cab vehicle.

The BFP Midsayap estimated initial damage to properties at PHP1.5 million. (PNA)
