MANILA – The country is still in the first wave of coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) pandemic driven by local community transmission, a health official said Thursday.
"Kung matatandaan niyo po local community transmission happened nung nagsimula tayong mag-report ng cases ng mga kababayan natin na walang exposure sa mga positive cases or walang (If you remember, the local community transmission happened when we started reporting on cases of our countrymen with no exposure to positive cases or no) travel history. We are still in this wave," Department of Health Promotion and Communication Service director Beverly Ho said in a Covid-19 virtual presser.
Ho said that the current wave peaked on March 31 when the DOH reported the highest number of positive cases for Covid-19 at 538 that day.
"Since then the average number of cases has declined to around 220 cases per day. This is the reason why we are saying that we have started to flatten the curve," she added.
After apologizing for the confusion on the status of the pandemic wave, Ho advised the public to continue to observe proper handwashing, cough etiquette, physical distancing, regular disinfection and staying at home to change the course of the pandemic. (PNA)
