SAN JOSE DE BUENAVISTA, Antique – The province of Antique will implement a “One Antique Community Quarantine” starting May 25 which will allow residents to travel within the province subject to the observance of health protocols.

Traveling within the province will be allowed provided that the Antiqueños will pass through the thermal scanner and present their identification cards at checkpoints, said Antique Governor Rhodora Cadiao in her message during a meeting with the League of Municipalities of the Philippines (LMP) Antique Chapter and the Inter-Agency for Coronavirus 2019 (Covid-19), on Friday.

“The 'One Antique Community Quarantine' will be a prelude to the proposed entry of Antique to the 'One Panay Community Quarantine',” she said.

The "One Panay Community Quarantine" was proposed by Iloilo City Mayor Jerry Treñas as early as April. However, Antique did not join because the province has no case of the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) during that time.

Cadiao proposed the idea to the mayors in the province after realizing the advantages of making people’s travel a lot easier.

It also eases the economic burden by enabling them to go to work in another town without the need of securing the quarantine and travel passes from their municipalities and barangays.

“There are several Antiqueños whose work is in another town, so with the 'One Antique Community Quarantine', they could further be assisted in their economic side,” Cadiao said.

The mayors and the inter-agency task force agreed with the proposal provided that the public still observes the health protocol such as safe physical distancing and wearing of face masks to prevent the spread of Covid-19.

In an interview, San Jose de Buenavista Mayor Elmer Untaran said that he will abide by whatever they have discussed during their meeting. “For me, I am amenable with the proposal,” he said.

Meanwhile, Cadiao said that as the province implements the "One Antique Community Quarantine", travel restrictions will still be implemented in the provincial borders of Iloilo province in the southern part, and Aklan in the northern part.

“The checkpoints in the borders will have to be maintained since Antique is still under the general community quarantine,” she said. (PNA)
