CAMP SIONGCO, Maguindanao – Maj. Gen. Diosdado Carreon, Army’s 6th Infantry Division (6ID) commander, honored here Sunday four soldiers who got injured while protecting civilians in Maguindanao.

Carreon, concurrent head of Joint Task Force Central (JTFC), visited the soldiers wounded in action in a clash with Daesh-inspired gunmen in Ampatuan, Maguindanao last week.

He executed a snappy salute to Sgt. Joebert B. Apin and Cpl. Ralf Loween C. Castillo, both of the 1st Mechanized Infantry Battalion and militiamen Hadafi B. Upam, and Johari A. Esmael of the 6th Civilian Active Auxiliary - Maguindanao Company before awarding them with wounded personnel medals (WPM) and financial assistance during ceremonies inside this camp.

Carreon was assisted by Camp Siongco Station Hospital acting head Maj. Julian Gualberto G. Dellosa.

WPM is given to personnel of the Armed Forces of the Philippines as recognition for having been wounded in action as a direct result of an act of the enemy.

The awardees got injured last Wednesday while pursuing terrorist group Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters (BIFF) in Barangay Salman, Ampatuan, Maguindanao.

The wounded soldiers are currently recuperating at the camp hospital and are in stable condition. (PNA)
