ZAMBOANGA CITY – Mayor Maria Isabelle Climaco-Salazar announced on Thursday that Zamboanga City would remain under general community quarantine (GCQ) until June 15.

Salazar said the decision was based on Resolution 40 of the national Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF-EID).

The resolution, penned by Health Secretary Francisco Duque III and Cabinet Secretary Karlo Alexei Nograles, designated the city as among the moderate-risk highly urbanized areas whose GCQ status has been extended.

The other parts of the region, such as Zamboanga Sibugay, Zamboanga del Norte, Zamboanga del Sur, and Isabela City, will be placed under modified GCQ (MGCQ) until June 15.

During a meeting on Thursday, the local IATF on the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19), chaired by Salazar, adopted the IATF-EID resolution but called on residents to continue strict compliance with the GCQ guidelines to help curb the spread of the virus.

“The city will comply with the national IATF-EID resolution,” Salazar said.

Meanwhile, she said the City Health Office has recorded 145 confirmed Covid-19 cases with four deaths and 25 recoveries as of 11 a.m. Thursday, along with 1,193 suspected carriers. (PNA)
