BACOLOD CITY – The prices of chicken, pork, and other meat products in Negros Occidental have slightly increased while the province is under general community quarantine (GCQ).

The latest report of the Provincial Veterinary Office (PVO) showed that the average price per kilogram of dressed broiler and native chicken has gone up by PHP0.06 and PHP0.14, respectively.

On May 26, the price per kilogram (kg.) of dressed broiler chicken increased to PHP162.61 from PHP162.55 on May 18.

At present, native chicken costs PHP253.26 per kg., up from the previous PHP253.12.

Pork is now sold at PHP205.42 per kg., which is PHP0.63 higher than the previous PHP204.79 per kg.

Dr. Renante Decena, provincial veterinarian, on Thursday attributed the slight increase in prices of meat products to the prevailing community quarantine measures.

“There’s higher demand as slaughter increases due to (the) bulk-buying scheme. People tend to store pork for their consumption since there is limited transportation,” Decena said.

The price per kg. of carabeef is now pegged at PHP261.62, which is PHP0.72 higher than last week’s PHP260.90.

Beef and chevon or goat meat increased by PHP0.40 and PHP0.95 per kg., respectively.

A kilogram of beef costs PHP266.38 from the previous PHP265.98 while chevon costs PHP316.96, up from last week’s PHP316.01.

On the other hand, Decena said the average price of eggs decreased due to lower transport costs since a layer farm egg outlet is based only in Bacolod.

Prevailing prices range from PHP6.34 to PHP8.18 per piece, depending on the size.

These are lower by PHP0.19 to PHP0.31 per piece compared to the previous prices that ranged from PHP6.53 to PHP8.49. (PNA)
