DAVAO CITY – After completing a 14-day quarantine, some 35 stranded students of the Community Technical College of Southern Mindanao (CTCSM) in Maco, Davao de Oro finally returned to their respective hometowns and were reunited with their families over the weekend.
The students were earlier stranded for nearly two months inside the campus while the province was placed under enhanced community quarantine (ECQ).
On May 16, the provincial government of Davao de Oro rescued the students where they were brought to a patient care center at the provincial capitol in Nabunturan, Davao de Oro, and were screened by the provincial health staff as their 14-day quarantine commenced.
They underwent health screening using the rapid diagnostic test to further check if the students were not manifesting flu-like symptoms linked to coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19).
The students were also given psychosocial activities from the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office (PSWDO) for their personality development and behavioral assessment.
On the other hand, the Provincial Health Office conducted daily medical checkups to monitor their health status, and meal plans including nutritious foods were also served by the Kusina ng Kalinga program to ensure that the basic needs of the stranded students under quarantine will be provided.
Upon returning to their respective municipalities, the 35 CTCSM students were given school bags, grocery items, financial assistance, and medical certificates as proof that they all tested negative for Covid-19.
“We thank all of you for your cooperation during the 14-day quarantine. I know that you will be happy as you go home to your respective families,” Governor Jayvee Tyron Uy said. (PNA)
