TACLOBAN CITY – A total of 9,532 agrarian reform beneficiaries (ARB) in Eastern Visayas have received food packs and hygiene kits from the Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) amid the health crisis.

In a statement on Wednesday, DAR Eastern Visayas officer-in-charge Ismael Aya-ay said the project dubbed “The PaSSOver: ARBold Move to Heal as One Deliverance of our ARBs from the Covid-19 Pandemic” is in response to Republic Act 11469 or the Bayanihan to Heal as One-Act.

“The relief assistance will help ease their burden brought by the current situation,” he added.

During the distribution from May 21 to 29, each recipient got a relief pack containing four kilograms of rice, canned goods, noodles, vitamins, bath soap, and face masks.

The project also intends to provide supplemental food for the sustenance of poor ARBs, especially those who were not served by the Social Amelioration Program (SAP) and to supply ARBs with hygiene products for their protection.

Meanwhile, DAR assured that health protocols were strictly observed during distribution through their provincial and local counterparts.

Since the outbreak of Covid-19 in the country, a total of 45 cases have been confirmed in Eastern Visayas, including 25 recoveries and zero death.

Of the total cases, 32 are from Samar, 11 from Leyte, one from Northern Samar, and one from Biliran province. (PNA)
