DUMAGUETE CITY – The city government here has released some PHP154.8 million worth of financial assistance to 25,800 families under the Social Amelioration Program (SAP) and the Unconditional Cash Transfer (UCT) of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD).

City Information Officer Dems Rey Demecillo said Monday the payouts have been completed, although not all of the targeted and identified beneficiaries were able to claim their PHP6,000 cash assistance from the total of PHP177.9 million allocated for the city.

A centralized distribution done in batches was adopted, based on Mayor Felipe Antonio Remollo’s order, for the safety of the beneficiaries who had to observe safe physical distancing during the payouts held between April 28 and May 18 for the beneficiaries from the city’s 30 barangays, a media release from the city’s Public Information Office said.

Only those with face masks and priority numbers were allowed to board the buses that were provided to ferry the beneficiaries from their respective barangay halls to the holding area near the City Treasurer’s Office where the cash aid was handed over.

The city thanked private institutions such as Silliman University, Negros Oriental State University, Metro Dumaguete College and Vallacar Transit for the free use of their vehicles and buses to transport the beneficiaries to and from their barangays. (PNA)
