ILOILO CITY – The number of repatriated overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) in Western Visayas who tested positive for the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) has increased to 48 as of Tuesday, the Department of Health-Center for Health Development (DOH-CHD) in Region 6 (Western Visayas) said.

Two repatriates have positive reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) test results and are under facility quarantine, said Dr. Marie Jocelyn Te, the DOH-CHD 6 medical coordinator for emerging and reemerging infectious diseases.

The new Covid-19 confirmed repatriates are a 48-year-old male from Kalibo, Aklan; and a 31-year-old male from Cadiz City, Negros Occidental.

They brought the region’s total Covid-19 cases to 127, Te said.

She said that swabs were taken from both confirmed cases last June 2.

In an official statement on Tuesday, the Aklan Provincial Health Office said their new Covid-19 case left Africa last March 13, 2020, and arrived in the country last March 14 via Qatar Air.

“Continuous monitoring and contact tracing activities on Covid-19 are ongoing in the entire province of Aklan,” part of the statement reads.

Meanwhile, Te said that out of the 48 Covid-19 confirmed repatriates, 13 are from Iloilo City; nine from Negros Occidental; eight from Iloilo province; seven from Bacolod City, four each from Aklan and Antique; and three from Guimaras.

To date, the region has a total of 3,979 repatriated OFWs.

Most of the repatriated OFWs are from Iloilo province with 1, 366; followed by Iloilo City with 512; and Capiz with 458.
Negros Occidental, meanwhile, has 451 OFWs; Aklan has 444; Antique has 316; Bacolod City has 314; and Guimaras with 118.

Te said that the regional health office is yet to verify the number of OFWs already tested.

She said that the region’s recoveries are still at 88 while deaths remained at 11. (PNA)
