DAVAO CITY – Reigning International Boxing Federation (IBF) super flyweight champion Jerwin “Pretty Boy” Ancajas of Davao del Norte urged boxing fans to stay safe as he expressed hope that the public can overcome the coronavirus disease pandemic.

Ancajas, 28, was one of the guest speakers in the 1st IBF Video Awards Ceremony held worldwide through YouTube.

“To all boxing fans, stay safe and we can overcome this global crisis and boxing will be back soon,” Ancajas said.

Ancajas is currently training at the Cavite Survival Camp in Magallanes, Cavite.

He and his manager-trainer, Joven Jimenez, were supposed to go to the United States for a possible fight but have to defer their trip due to the Covid-19 outbreak.

Saka nila i-confirm ang laban kung makakarating kami sa US” (They will soon confirm the fight after we arrive in the US) said Jimenez. “Pero, nakahanda kami sa training” (But we are ready for the training)."

Ancajas also runs 30 minutes every day since he is already 88 percent in condition.

He had 36 rounds of sparring sessions against undefeated super lightweight Daniel Lim (9W-0L, 2KO), flyweight John Mark Alimane (8W-1L-0D, 4KO) and unbeaten light flyweight Angelo Beltran (6W-0L, 4KO).

In his last and eight title fight, Ancajas stopped Miguel Gonzales of Chile in the 6th round in Mexico last Dec. 7. (PNA)
