ILOILO CITY -- The confirmed coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) cases in Western Visayas have reached 164 after six repatriated overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) and two locally stranded individuals (LSIs) tested positive for the disease, the Department of Health-Center for Health Development (DOH-CHD 6) in Western Visayas confirmed on Thursday.
Dr. Marie Jocelyn Te, DOH-CHD 6 medical coordinator for emerging and reemerging infectious diseases, said in a regular virtual presser, that all new cases are quarantined in a facility.
Four of the repatriated OFWs found infected with Covid-19 cases in the region are from Bacolod City.
They are a 37-year-old male, a 40-year-old male, a 38-year-old female, and a 35-year-old male.
Two other Covid-19-positive OFWs are a 44-year-old male from Oton, and a 25-year-old male from Miagao, both of Iloilo Province.
Te said two LSIs, a 38-year-old female from Bacolod City and a 30-year-old male from Hinigaran, Negros Occidental, also tested positive for Covid-19.
Aside from the eight, Western Visayas also detected two new cases tagged to other regions. They are a 38-year-old male from San Carlos, Pangasinan, and a 34-year-old male from Cebu City.
“We have 987 results released – 824 are from the Western Visayas Medical Center sub-national laboratory and 163 from Teresita L. Jalandoni Provincial Hospital Molecular Laboratory,” she said.
The region also logged three new recoveries involving a 37-year-old, 35-year-old, and 38-year-old, all males from Bacolod City.
To date, the region has 47 active cases, 106 recoveries, and 11 deaths.
Te said that 81 of the Covid-19 cases in the region are repatriated OFWs and LSIs. (PNA)
