BUTUAN CITY – The Department of Health in the Caraga Region (DOH-13) announced Friday (June 26) the 29 additional coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) cases in the area, bringing the total number of infections to 116.
Of the total number of cases, DOH-13 said 27 have already recovered, seven already discharged from health facilities, and no recorded death.
DOH-13 Director Jose Llacuna Jr. said that based on the RT-PCR results received Friday from Davao Regional Medical Center (DMRC) and the Southern Philippines Medical Center (SPMC) sub-national laboratories, 160 tested negative while 47 turned positive of the deadly virus.
“The 47 samples that turned positive include the follow-up tests of the 18 confirmed cases while 29 are new Covid-19 cases,” he said, adding that 23 of the 29 new cases are asymptomatic.
The 29 new cases (16 males and 13 females) in the region include 26 Locally-Stranded Individuals (LSIs) and three Returning Overseas Filipinos (ROFs).
Three new Covid-19 cases are recorded in Butuan City, one in Cabadbaran City, and two in the town of Nasipit in Agusan del Norte.
In Agusan del Sur, the towns of Bunawan, Rosario, San Francisco, Sibagat, and Trento each recorded one new case.
In Surigao del Norte, two new cases were recorded in Surigao City, two in Bacuag, four in Claver, three in Mainit, and one each in Malimono, Placer, San Francisco, and Tubod.
In Surigao del Sur, a new case was reported each in Bislig City, Cantilan, and Lingig.
The negative results from the newly-received RT-PCR tests include the follow-up tests of the 22 confirmed cases, nine suspect cases, two probable cases, and the results coming from high-risk individuals who either have turned positive in the Rapid Antibody-based Test or with relevant travel and exposure to Covid-19, Llacuna added.
“Our goal has always been to flatten the curve by particularly preparing our health care system and not overwhelm it. Given the current situation and with the continued rise of our cases, the DOH regional office is continuously intensifying its technical assistance and logistic support to all treatment and monitoring facilities region-wide," he said.
