800 trike drivers in Davao City get cash aid

DAVAO CITY--In coordination with the Department of Labor and Employment in Davao Region (DOLE-11), the office of 1st District Rep. Paolo “Pulong” Duterte distributed on Friday cash assistance to some 800 tricycle drivers at the Bankerohan Gymnasium in Barangay 5-A here.

Each tricycle driver received PHP3,900 each from the government’s assistance program to mitigate the impact of the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19).

Duterte's office also facilitated the release of the cash assistance to 314 tricycle drivers at the People’s Park on June 20.

The beneficiaries were compensated for 10 days of working based on DOLE’s program “Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Disadvantaged/Displaced Workers (TUPAD).

TUPAD is a community-based package of assistance that provides emergency employment for displaced workers, underemployed and seasonal workers, for a minimum period of 10 days, but not to exceed a maximum of 30 days, depending on the nature of work to be performed.

Aside from the cash assistance, Duterte’s office also distributed food packs to the drivers.

Earlier, some 680 workers, mostly solo parents, also received cash assistance and food packs from the government. (PNA)
