ZAMBOANGA CITY – The local police's Drug Enforcement Unit (DEU) arrested a teenager and seized some PHP6.8 million worth of suspected shabu in an anti-drug operation here, a top police official said Saturday.

Brig. Gen. Jesus Cambay Jr., Police Regional Office-9 (PRO-9) director, said the 17-year-old suspect is a native of Siasi town, Sulu, who was arrested by the DEU of the Zamboanga City Police Office’s (ZCPO) Station 10 in a buy-bust shortly before 3 p.m. Saturday in Barangay Sta. Barbara.

The suspect yielded a kilo of suspected shabu with an estimated market value of PHP6.8 million, a digital weighing scale, and PHP55,000 boodle money, police said.

Police said the suspect denied having knowledge of the illegal drug transaction, claiming he was just told to deliver a package for a fee.

Cambay vowed the police's anti-drug campaign will continue, noting that illegal drug activities in the region have persisted even amid the coronavirus disease (Covid-19) pandemic. (PNA)
