BUTUAN CITY – The Department of Health in the Caraga Region (DOH-13) has called on the implementation of stricter health protocols as new confirmed cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) are recorded in the area.

This came as DOH-13 Director Jose Llacuna Jr., announced on Monday (June 29) the 22 new cases of Covid-19 in the region, raising the area's total cases to 138.

Llacuna said they received the results of the 152 Reverse transcription-polymerase Chain Reaction (RT-PCR) tests from the Davao Medical Center in Davao City Monday.

Of the 152 test results, 120 turned negative that include the three follow-up tests of previous Covid-19 cases in the region, he added.

“Regretfully, 32 samples turned positive, 10 are the follow-up test of previous Covid-19 cases while the 22 are considered new Covid-19 cases in the region,” Llacuna said.

Of the 22 new Covid-19 cases in the region, 18 are Locally Stranded Individuals (LSIs), two are Returning Overseas Filipinos (ROFs), one patient has a travel history in Metro Manila, and one health care worker, Llacuna said.

Twelve of the new cases are females while 10 are males with ages ranging from 20 to 30-years-old, DOH-13 records showed.

“Twenty of the new cases are asymptomatic and are now isolated in the quarantine facilities in their respective local government units (LGUs) while two are experiencing mild symptoms and are now confined in the region's treatment facilities,” Llacuna said.

One new case is confirmed in Butuan City while seven new cases are recorded in Agusan del Norte that includes one in the town of Buenavista, two in Carmen, one in Jabonga, two in Nasipit, and two in Cabadbaran City.

Five new cases are also confirmed in Agusan del Sur that include one in Esperanza, one in Loreto, two in Prosperidad, and one in Sibagat.

Four new cases are also reported in Surigao del Sur, to include one in the town of Alegria, one in Del Carmen (Siargao Island), one in Mainit, and one in Tubod.

In Surigao del Sur, four new cases are reported by DOH-13, to include two in the town of Carmen, one in Lingig, and one in Bislig City.

“We observe the continuing of Covid-19 cases in our region starting from June 14 until now. Let us strictly implement containment measures. Strict quarantines must be put in place in areas where there are already two or more Covid-19 cases,” Llacuna said.

He noted that of the 138 total cases of Covid-19 in the region, 97 are LSIs, 18 are ROFs while the remaining 23 are health workers and individuals who had histories of travels in areas with Covid-19 cases.

He also urged the people of Caraga to follow the minimum health standards and emphasized that everyone must stay in their homes especially the senior citizens, the minors, and children. (PNA)
