CABANATUAN CITY, Nueva Ecija – The National Irrigation Administration-Upper Pampanga River Integrated Irrigation System (NIA-UPRIIS) has distributed remunerations to some 145 farmers' organizations that helped in maintaining the irrigation canals in Central Luzon.

Engineer Jose Ariel Domingo, NIA division manager, on Monday said the recipient farmers organized into Irrigators' Associations (IAs) were in charge of cleaning up sub-lateral canals to ensure the smooth flow of water to rice fields.

"Ang kabayaran ay depende sa lawak ng kanilang ginagawa (The remuneration depends on the extent of what they are doing)," he said, adding that a total amount of PHP800,000 covered incentives for the last wet season.

To ensure that health protocols were properly observed, Domingo said the NIA-UPRIIS Division III personnel distributed the remuneration on different dates and locations.

"IAs under each zones were instructed to go to the Zone Quarters at a specific scheduled time on June 18, 24 and 25, 2020 to claim their respective remuneration checks," another irrigation official said.

During the distribution, physical distancing, temperature check and disinfection were also conducted before the claimants were allowed inside the quarters as a measure to prevent spread of the coronavirus disease 2019. (PNA)
