MANILA – The Department of Tourism (DOT) is crafting specific health and safety protocols for other tourism sectors, including the meetings, incentives, conferences and exhibitions (MICE) in line with the "new normal" brought by the coronavirus disease (Covid-19) pandemic.

"We will be issuing very soon guidelines for MICE facilities, meeting facilities, travel and tours, tour guides, even guidelines for the island and beach destinations and tourist attractions," DOT Undersecretary Arturo Boncato Jr. said in the pre-State of the Nation Address forum on Wednesday.

Boncato noted that the DOT continues to support tourism stakeholders in coping with the new normal as it remains optimistic in the "slow but sure" tourism resumption.
"The secretary has been very vocal about this that the only way we can really survive the future is to follow the new norms," he said.

Earlier, the DOT has issued protocols for tourist transports, surf camps, hotels, and restaurants as those establishments under eased community quarantine resume operations.

Travel for leisure and tourism activities at half-capacity are now allowed in places under modified general community quarantine subject to restrictions imposed by the local government unit. (PNA)
