DAVAO CITY – Mayor Sara Z. Duterte said Monday she received information that the National Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) is set to revert the entire city to general community quarantine (GCQ) from the current modified GCQ on July 15.

Duterte said the local government will appeal the reversion.

“We will try to appeal because there is a remedy allowed on the local government units provided that we can comply with the data needed by the IATF,” she pointed out.

She said the decision of the IATF could be attributed due to the rising coronavirus disease (Covid-19) cases and the "disobedience" of some Dabawenyos in following heath protocols by health authorities.

“The action of one person will greatly affect the entire city. For example, if we have 10 people who will not follow the health protocols and will be infected, it will really create a ripple effect,” she added.

Based on the latest data from the Southern Philippines Medical Center (SPMC), Mayor Sara said the city has 162 active positive cases--the highest number of active cases since the Covid-19 outbreak started in March this year.

The number of recoveries is at 38, with 35 deaths.

“For the past four days, we have noted an increasing rate of positive cases. This is expected and we can attribute the increase due to local transmission, the return of locally stranded individuals (LSIs), and overseas Filipino workers (OFWs),” she said.

Should the national government deny the appeal, she urged the Dabawenyos to revisit the July 2 version of the IATF Omnibus Guidelines for guidance.

She also reiterated her call for Dabawenyos to stay at home, wear a facemask, practice physical distancing, and wash hands regularly to prevent the spread of the disease.

“We might get the result of our appeal on Tuesday night or Wednesday early morning,” Duterte said. (PNA)
