ILOILO CITY – Western Visayas (Region 8) recorded on Thursday 36 patients who recovered from the coronavirus disease (Covid-19) based on the result released by the Department of Health Center for Health Development (DOH-CHD 6).

The new recoveries brought the region’s treated patients to 282.

Twelve new positives were also recorded which increased the region’s total cases to 699, out of which 405 are active.

DOH –CHD 6 spokesperson Dr. Marie Jocelyn Te said the high number of recoveries could be due to majority of the cases in the region being asymptomatic.

Of the 36 recoveries, 33 are locally stranded individuals (LSIs) and three are repatriated overseas Filipino workers (ROFs).

Of the 12 confirmed cases, four are ROFs, six are LSIs, one resident of Victorias City, Negros Occidental, and one from Bacolod City.

Te said she has yet to get a copy of the case history of the two locals.

“They are all asymptomatic and this is good news,” she said.

If they will not manifest symptoms five days after they start with their quarantine, she said there is a chance that they will become asymptomatic until the end of their quarantine.

All the new cases are under quarantine facility.

“We are trying to advocate our LGU (local government unit) that they can now go on home quarantine while waiting for the result,” she added.

The Western Visayas Medical Center sub-national laboratory (WVMC-SNL) is targeting to finish its backlog either Friday or this weekend.

Te said 289 results released were from the Teresita L. Jalandoni Provincial Hospital Molecular Laboratory; 270 from the WVMC-SNL; 61 from the Qualimed Hospital Molecular Laboratory and eight were from the Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital Laboratory. (PNA)
