MANILA – An official of the Archdiocese of Davao on Saturday said Archbishop Romulo Valles is in good condition and continues to recuperate after he was hospitalized due to mild stroke.
Msgr. Paul Cuison, vicar general of the Davao archdiocese, said Valles, also president of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP), is getting back to his normal self.
“As a close aide to the Archbishop, I am happy to let you know that he is getting back to (his) normal self again in an almost miraculous way, with only a slight problem (on) his physical movement, which is also showing great improvement,” Cuison said in a statement posted on Facebook.
He reported that Valles officiated his birthday Mass in a private gathering on July 10.
The archbishop was brought to the hospital on May 23 and was discharged on July 6.
Cuison said Valles stayed longer in the hospital due to several complications, including acquired hospital pneumonia.
He said the archdiocese thanks those who offered prayers for Valles’ immediate recovery.
“I am optimistic that it would just be a matter of days and he will be back to celebrate public Masses for the faithful,” Cuison said.
