DAVAO CITY--At least 1,200 marginalized workers here received cash assistance and food packs from the office of 1st District Rep. Paolo "Pulong" Duterte on Monday.

A statement from the lawmaker’s office said the distribution of aid packages, held at the People’s Park here, benefited workers affected by the crisis brought about by the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) who each received PHP3,960 cash as compensation under DOLE's program the "Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Disadvantaged/Displaced Workers" (TUPAD).

“They received cash from the government’s assistance program to mitigate the impact of the national health emergency due to coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19),” the lawmaker's office said.

Aside from the cash assistance, Duterte’s staff also distributed food packs to the registered beneficiaries.

“These workers were residents of the 54 barangays under the first district. They were earlier assigned by their respective barangay councilors to disinfect their respective houses and their surroundings to maintain cleanliness in the barangay and avoid getting infected of the disease,” it said..

On July 6, Pulong and DOLE-11 also distributed cash assistance and food packs to some 1,400 marginalized workers consisting of barbers, masseurs, and parlor beauticians. (PNA)
