ZAMBOANGA CITY--Thirty areas in 17 barangays have been placed on lockdown amid the rising coronavirus disease cases in this southern port city, officials said Monday.

Captain Edwin Duco, Zamboanga City Police Office chief, said the City Health Office identifies the areas placed on lockdown while the police implement the measures.

The areas involved are those with active cases and with ongoing contact tracing procedures, Duco said.

Duco said the affected barangays are Cabatangan, Calarian, Camino Nuevo, Campo Islam, Canelar, Cawit, Divisoria, Mampang, Pasonanca, San Roque, San Jose Cawa-Cawa, San Jose Gusu, Sta. Maria, Talon-Talon, Tetuan, Zambowood, and Zone 1.

The Department of Health (DOH) in Region 9 said this city has 395 confirmed cases with 12 mortalities as of Sunday, July 19.

However, DOH-9 said this city has recorded 187 case recoveries in the same period, the highest recovery rate in the region.

Meanwhile, Dr. Dulce Amor Miravite, city health officer, said that 21 of this city’s 98 barangays have recorded one or several Covid-19 cases.

Miravite said they recorded an increase of infection when this city shifted to Modified Community Quarantine (MGCQ) on July 1.

The national Inter-Agency Task Force Covid-19 had earlier reverted this city to General Community Quarantine (GCQ) effective July 16. (With reports from Salvador Santiago/PNA)
