Iloilo City closes border to Negros Island July 22

ILOILO CITY – People coming from Bacolod City, Negros Occidental, and Negros Oriental are indefinitely banned from entering this city starting Wednesday (July 22).

Mayor Jerry Treñas announced this through an advisory released on Tuesday and citing the “rising cases of Covid-19” as the reason.

“Movement of essential goods and cargoes will remain unhampered,” he added.

Data released by the Department of Health Western Visayas Center for Health Development (DOH-CHD6) on Monday showed that as of July 20, Bacolod City has 13 active cases while Negro Occidental has 26 active cases.

Negros Occidental still has 109 returning overseas Filipino (ROFs) workers and locally stranded individuals (LSIs) who are confirmed Covid-19 positive and still under facility quarantine. Three of the positives are admitted to hospitals.

Bacolod City, on the other hand, has 23 ROFs and LSIs under facility quarantine and four in home quarantine.

Iloilo City, meanwhile, has 10 active cases, of which three are under facility quarantine and one under home quarantine.

In DOH bulletin number 116 released on Monday, out of the 34 new confirmed cases in Western Visayas, 14 came from Bacolod City composed of seven LSIs, two ROFs, and five locals, three of whom are health workers. Negros Occidental, on the other hand, has four ROFs. (PNA)
