CEBU CITY – The city government of Cebu is implementing localized lockdowns in six areas of five barangays here, the mayor announced on Saturday.
Cebu City Mayor Edgardo Labella announced the move in a media briefing after a meeting earlier with officials from the Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) and police station commanders.
The areas to be placed under granular lockdowns include Sitio Eyha in Barangay Guadalupe; Balaga Drive to Sitio Cekalco in Barangay Labangon; Tuada Compound in Barangay Tisa; Sitio San Isidro and Abellanosa Compound in Barangay Quiot; and C. Mina Extension in Barangay Mabolo.
“Going out of residents in these areas is absolutely prohibited,” Labella told the briefing with IATF officials.
“The city government will distribute food packs and other necessities to all families affected,” the mayor announced after issuing Executive Order 085, mandating the lockdown measures.
Medications of affected residents should also be coursed through the barangay officials, he noted.
Labella said the quarantine passes held by the residents of these areas are also suspended.
The granular lockdowns are to be implemented for three to 14 days from the onset of the imposition.
During such period, Labella said contact tracing and swabbing will be done on all first-level contacts and suspected Covid-19 positive in those areas.
The mayor said those found positive of the virus should then be transferred to the designated isolation and quarantine facilities in the city.
In the same briefing, Maj. Gen. Mel Feliciano, who is assisting Cebu overseer Environment Secretary Roy Cimatu, said uniformed personnel and station commanders will secure the lockdown areas, with the establishment of barangay control points in place.
The lifting of the lockdowns should only be implemented upon the approval of the city mayor and the Regional IATF.
Feliciano said even if Cebu City gradually downgrades to general community quarantine, localized lockdowns will still be implemented if needed especially in areas with high active Covid-19 cases. (PNA)
