TACLOBAN CITY – The Philippine National Police (PNP) and the local government of Bobon, Northern Samar have given a decent burial to two members of the New People’s Army and to three residents whose remains were unearthed from a burial ground of the communist terrorist group.
PNP Northern Samar provincial director Col. Reynaldo Dela Cruz led a simple burial ceremony on Monday in Bobon town witnessed by local police, personnel of the 1st Northern Samar Provincial Mobile Force Company, and relatives.
Authorities identified one of the remains as Emma Termo, an active member of the Communist NPA Terrorists from Calbayog City.
Reliable information given by a rebel returnee revealed that sometime in the year 2009, NPA members buried the body of Termo, who died during an encounter incident in E. Duran village, Bobon town.
The other remains were believed to be of a certain Dayna, a rebel fighter who died in 2019. Others were identified as that of Boy Egos, Myrna Nordan, and Cesar Bantalan, all residents of Bobon town.
Police and military unearthed the remains on July 10 in an upland village in Bobon town.
Dela Cruz asked residents to continue providing information to discover more remains and help resolve crimes.
“Be vigilant and always pay attention to the details of the information being fed to you because those pieces of information can be used in solving crimes even if those incidents happened a long time ago,” Dela Cruz said in a statement on Tuesday.
Authorities buried the remains at the Bobon public cemetery. The local government of Bobon shouldered all burial expenses.
Government troops have been coordinating with rebel returnees to locate the grave of other NPA members who died in clashes with government troops.
The Communist Party of the Philippines-NPA is listed as a terrorist organization by the United States, the European Union, the United Kingdom, Australia, Canada, New Zealand, and the Philippines. (PNA)
