DAVAO CITY – Even as the city remains under modified general community quarantine (MGCQ) until August 15, the local government has decided to lift the food and medicine pass and curfew beginning Monday (August 3).

In a radio interview on Friday, Mayor Sara Z. Duterte announced the impending removal of several quarantine measures, which she said will be contained in an Executive Order next week.

“We still have a quarantine, meaning they still have to stay at home. And if they go out they have to wear a mask, practice frequent hand washing, and bring alcohol with them. The vulnerable sectors are allowed to go out if necessary and to exercise,” Mayor Sara said.

The mayor said she wanted the Dabawenyos to self-regulate while the local government strives to maintain a manageable number of coronavirus diseases 2019 (Covid-19) cases in the city.

Duterte said she will also lift the liquor ban on August 30.

Mayor Sara banned liquor 24/7 during the enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) on April 6, as part of the preventive measures to discourage mass gathering amid the pandemic.

Duterte said she will also allow the reopening of the Roxas Night Market starting September 1.

On March 12, Duterte ordered the closure of the Roxas Night Market together with other public parks as part of the precautionary measures of the city against the infection.

“What we need to do is to remind everyone that we need to instill discipline and self-regulation. Otherwise, if there is an increase in cases, we will close the establishments again," she said. "Nobody wants to go back to GCQ and ECQ."

Duterte also appealed to the Dabawenyos to cooperate and follow important health protocols such as staying at home, wearing face masks, practice safe physical distancing, and frequent hand washing. (PNA)
