ILOILO CITY – More localized lockdowns are being implemented here as the city logged 32 new confirmed coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) cases on Wednesday.

Mayor Jerry Treñas announced in the city government’s official Facebook page that 26 new local cases were from the contact tracing conducted at the Iloilo Fishing Port Complex (IFPC), four workers in a hospital, and two were additional cases from IQOR, a call center firm.

In a virtual presser, Covid-19 focal person Dr.Roland Jay Fortuna said the 26 new cases from the fishing port were from barangays Rizal Pala-Pala 2 with 10 cases, North Baluarte, five; Tanza Baybay, four; two each in Calumpang and Tanza Bonifacio; and one each from Cuartero and Simon Ledesma. The port's security guard, a resident of Pototan, Iloilo, also tested positive.

“With the number of cases at these barangays, the Iloilo Covid team recommended a surgical lockdown in North Baluarte, Rizal Pala Zone 1 and Zone 2 and Tanza Baybay. Because of the close proximity, we also recommended the surgical lockdown of the terminal market. With this we also extend the lockdown of the fishing port complex,” Fortuna said.

Rizal Pala Pala 1 has four Covid-19 cases composed of one health worker and three contacts.

Meanwhile, the Covid team also received the results of the reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) test conducted on call center agents of IQOR where two new cases were confirmed.

The results were from the specimen gathered last August 1.
“We have also recommended to the office of the mayor the extension of the localized lockdown of IQOR in connection with our ongoing disinfection and contact tracing as a response measure of Iloilo City,” Lawyer GV Cuñada, a member of the Covid team. (PNA)
