MANILA – Presidential Communications Operations Office Secretary Martin Andanar on Saturday showed appreciation for the “dynamic political career” of former Manila mayor Alfredo Lim who died due to coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19).
In a press statement, Andanar extended his sympathies and condolences to the family of Lim.
Andanar said the nation would remember Lim for the latter’s “dedication to public order and long years of public service.”
“Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family and friends. We pray for the eternal repose of the soul of Mayor Lim,” he said.
Lim’s grandson, Paul dela Cruz, confirmed the passing of the former mayor in a Facebook post.
Dela Cruz, however, did not mention further details about Lim’s death.
Lim, 90, was a police officer before he entered politics.
Lim served as mayor of Manila City from 1992 to 1998 and from 2007 to 2013.
He also became senator and Interior Secretary.
Lim was also former chief of the National Bureau of Investigation.
In a separate statement, Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque hailed Lim‘s “tough stance against criminality and drugs.”
“He (Lim) left a legacy of law and order to his constituents,” Roque said. “We pray for the repose of his soul as we keep the family of Mayor Lim in our thoughts and prayers during this time of great loss.” (PNA)
