BUTUAN CITY – The Dinagat Islands’ provincial government said some 3,000 residents from the town of Libjo received assistance and services during the People’s Day Caravan 2020 on Monday.

In a statement on Tuesday, the provincial information office, said the service caravan, led by Governor Arlene “Kaka” Bag-ao, was supported by various line agencies of the government and the local government unit (LGU) of Libjo.

“The service caravan aims to provide support to farmers and fishermen in the area for them to continue farming and fishing and ensure the normal flow of the economy and the agriculture industry in the area,” the office said.

It said the service caravan provided the farmers and fishermen with basic needs to help them cope with the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) pandemic.

Personal protective equipment (PPE), laboratory equipment, and medical supplies were also handed over to the Albor District Hospital and the Libjo Rural Health Unit in the area.

“The laboratory equipment and medical supplies are intended to protect the residents in the area from dengue, tuberculosis, and other health problems. Residents of Libjo need not travel to Surigao City to seek health assistance,” the office said.

Fishermen were provided with rice incentives during the caravan while farmers were given vegetable seeds and fertilizers, it said, adding that facemasks produced by the local women’s group were also distributed to the residents of Libjo.

“I asked you to always observe the health protocols for us to be safe from Covid-19,” Bag-ao was quoted as telling the residents.

She also underscored the importance of complying with health protocols, which has helped the province maintain its record as the only area in the Caraga region not to register any Covid-19 case. (PNA)
