ZAMBOANGA CITY – The Department of Social Welfare and Development-9 (DSWD-9) started Thursday the release, through direct payout, of the second tranche of the Social Amelioration Program (SAP) here.

Fe dela Cruz, DSWD-9 SAP focal person, said 23 of the 98 barangays are covered in the first batch of the direct payout.

Socorro Rojas, City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO) chief, said earlier this week the DSWD has downloaded some PHP600 million for the payment of the SAP’s second tranche.

Rojas said the first batch of 116,195 beneficiaries in the second tranche will receive PHP5,000 while the 13,000 others who were left out in the release of the first tranche will get PHP10,000.

Dela Cruz said the beneficiaries have been properly notified by the district social workers and that the lists of recipients were also posted in barangay halls.

Meanwhile, dela Cruz said the release of SAP benefit through a digital payout, which is supposed to be released first, has been stopped because of systems error.

She said the digital payout will be released through four money remittance centers -- Universal Storefront Services Corporation (USSC)-Western Union, Sun Gate Pawnshop Inc., M Lhuillier, and Cebuana Lhuillier.

Dela Cruz has reminded the beneficiaries to strictly adhere to health protocols in claiming their SAP benefits.

SAP aims to help alleviate the impact of the coronavirus disease pandemic on poor families. (PNA)
