ILOILO CITY – Cumulative confirmed coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) cases in Western Visayas reached 2,518 as additional 109 new cases were recorded from out of the 1,100 results that were released by five sub-national laboratories and molecular laboratories on Thursday.
During a virtual presser, Dr. Marie Jocelyn Te, medical officer spokesperson of the Department of Health Western Visayas Center for Health Development (DOH-CHD6), said that aside from the new confirmed cases, the region also gained 43 new recoveries and no new deaths.
Of the 2,518 total cumulative confirmed Covid-19 cases in the region, 1,320 are active cases. Recovered patients increased to 1,164 with 42 new recoveries, Te said.
Of the 109 new confirmed cases, 98 are tagged as local cases, eight are locally stranded individuals (LSIs), and three are returning overseas Filipinos (ROFs).
Moreover, 61 of the new cases were from this city; 24 from Iloilo province; Bacolod City, 15; Negros Occidental, six; two from Capiz; and one from Antique.
In a separate virtual presser, this city’s Covid team spokesperson Jeck Conlu said the surgical lockdown that was implemented in Barangays Cuartero and Simon Ledesma in Jaro district and Guzman Jesena in Mandurriao will be lifted if they will have no new cases until Thursday evening.
The said barangays were placed on three days lockdown starting August 10 due to four or more confirmed Covid-19 cases traced in their areas.
Conlu added that they will also set a “walk-through” at the Iloilo Fishing Port Complex (IFPC) to look into the health safety protocols that they have prepared and comply with the recommendations of the Covid team.
“After the walk-through and if they pass, the Covid team will recommend for approval of Mayor Jerry Treñas, the resumption of the operations of the fishing port complex,” he said.
As of 4 p.m. on Wednesday, the IFPC has 167 cumulative confirmed cases. It was placed on lockdown since August 10. (PNA)
