IATF-EID places Zamboanga City under MGCQ

ZAMBOANGA CITY – Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque announced Saturday that the city will be under modified general community quarantine (MGCQ) effective Sunday, August 16, until August 31.

Roque's announcement was based on the resolution adopted by the Inter-Agency Task Force on Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF-EID).

This is the second time this city was placed under MGCQ; the first was from July 1 to 15.

On July 16, the IATF-EID reverted the city to GCQ until July 31, later extending it from August 1 to 15, noting the continued rise in coronavirus disease cases here.

In a statement Saturday, the Public Information Office (PIO) said the local IATF coronavirus disease (Covid-19) will issue corresponding guidelines relative to the city’s quarantine status "in due time."

Meanwhile, the IATF Covid-19 said the local health office has recorded 61 more recoveries, increasing the total cases recovered to 454 as of August 14.

It said the Covid-19 cases in this city soared to 829 with an additional 43 new positive cases recorded as of the same period. Of the total cases, 344 are active while the mortalities increased to 31 as three new deaths have been recorded.

The 43 new cases include a seven-month-old baby girl from Barangay San Jose Gusu. The baby, named as ZC790, is admitted at a private hospital, the local IATF said.

The oldest among the new cases is ZC819, a 94-year-old, female from Barangay Tetuan, who is currently admitted at a private hospital. (PNA)
