TUGUEGARAO CITY – The number of coronavirus disease (Covid-19) cases here has ballooned to 25 as the city shifted from modified general community quarantine (MGCQ) to modified enhanced community quarantine (MECQ) starting Aug. 26 until September 5.
Dr. James Guzman, city health officer, said a 50-year-old female chicken vendor, of Barangay Pallua Sur, identified as patient CV 631, died of complications of the viral disease.
The patient died on Tuesday afternoon. She did not have travel history but had acute coronary syndrome and acute myocardial infarction. The patient also suffered from sepsis, according to Dr. Glenn Mathew Baggao, Cagayan Valley Medical Center (CVMC) chief.
Three days before she was brought to the CVMC, the woman suffered stomach pains and went for a check-up at the Meneses Medical Clinic in Pengue Ruyu. She was brought to the CVMC on August 23 and was swab-tested. She was found positive of coronavirus on the same day.
Meanwhile, the new active cases were recorded in Barangay Ugac Norte with six; Cataggaman Viejo, four; Cataggaman Pardo, Carig Sur and at the city jail, two each; and Cataggaman Nuevo, Gosi Norte, Dadda, San Gabriel, Buntun, Libag Sur, Capatan, Pallua Sur and Caggay, one case each.
Two of the new cases were close contacts of CV-530, a non-uniformed personnel of the Tuguegarao City Police. They are a 42-year-old woman from Soldier’s Hill in Caggay and CV-636, a 93-year-old man from Kamagong Street in Capatan village.
In suspending public transport, Mayor Jefferson Soriano has also banned motorcycle-backriding except with a fellow household member and with certification from the village captain, when buying essentials or for emergencies.
Holy Masses will only be allowed with five parishioners and all other church gatherings must be virtual, he added.
Liquor ban has been imposed and only groceries and other stores selling essential goods at the malls are allowed to open.
“We would also issue Covid-19 Shield control pass within the city but we will limit to about 3,000 households only,” Soriano said.
Curfew hours are from 9 p.m. to 4 a.m.
Meanwhile, the city police office is on lockdown due to a number of infected personnel.
As 90 police and civilian workers have been on quarantine either at home or at local government facilities, they were temporarily replaced with 50 law enforcers from the region and 20 from the province. (PNA)
