DAGUPAN CITY – The second phase of the rehabilitation and construction of the 946.4-meter river bank protection project at Barangay Pantal here has been completed, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) said on Wednesday.

Bernard Caronongan, district information officer of DPWH-Pangasinan, said the phase 2 of the project measures 526.4 meters funded with PHP47.54 million, while the phase 1 measuring 420 meters was funded with PHP32.58 million.

“Phase 3 is under construction. It measures 300 meters funded with PHP49 million,” he said in an interview.

The flood control project will benefit residents and business establishments along the Pantal River, as the river usually overflows during high tide or heavy rains, Caronongan said.

“It will also serve as an alternate route for motorists to avoid traffic at the central business district of the city,” he added.

Meanwhile, Caronongan said the infrastructure projects in the province continue amid the pandemic.

“We asked the contractors to strictly adhere to the minimum health standard protocol to prevent the virus from infecting the workers,” he said. (PNA)
