Total Covid-19 deaths in W. Visayas now at 101

ILOILO CITY – Total deaths due to coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) in Western Visayas already reached 101 as of Thursday, according to the regional bulletin released by the Department of Health-Western Visayas Center for Health Development (DOH-CHD6).

In a virtual presser, DOH-CHD6 medical officer IV, Dr. Marie Jocelyn Te, said that six more deaths were listed as of Sept. 10.

Five of the deaths were from Negros Occidental -- a 61-year old female from Silay City who died Sept. 4; 42-year-old male from Sagay City who passed away Sept. 9; a 74-year old male from Pontevedra who died Aug. 31; 65-year old female from Pontevedra who died Sept. 4; and a 38-year old male from Cadiz City who died Sept. 4.

Pontevedra in Capiz also recorded one death, a 67 year-old male who died on August 30.

Meanwhile, the region recorded 253 new cases out of the 1,620 results released by the sub-national and molecular laboratories in the region.

The new positives increased the region’s cumulative total to 6,884 with 3,194 active cases.

Bacolod City still logged the highest number of new cases with 106 while Negros Occidental has 53. Iloilo City has 45; Iloilo province, 25; Capiz, 20; Aklan has two; and one each in Antique and Guimaras.

Local cases totaled 238, of whom 11 are locally stranded individuals (LSIs), two are returning overseas Filipinos, and another two are authorized persons outside of residence.

“As a whole, 178 of our confirmed cases are asymptomatic, 52 have influenza-like illnesses, 21 have severe acute respiratory infection, and for verification we have two,” the medical officer said.

On the other hand, there were 65 recoveries, raising the region’s recovered patients to 3,589.

The new recoveries were from Bacolod City with 26; 18 from Iloilo province; 11 from Iloilo City; three each from Negros Occidental and Guimaras; two from Capiz; and one each from Aklan and Antique. (PNA)
